The Knights of St Columba is the largest Catholic family fraternal
service organization in the UK with eight thousand members. It provides members and their
families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church,
their communities, families and young people.

The
work of the knights is carried out at both a local and national level.
Following the KSC's successful national 'Wells for Water' campaign,
which raised £277.000 in three years, the 'Help the Hospices'
project, and the
Samaritan organisation, the last National Action Project was to raise funds
for Vision Aid Overseas. £30,500 was raised.
As of October 2011, the current action project is Aid to the Church in Need/Save the Saveable.

Locally, the Knights of St Columba in Bradford undertake various activities to
provide support and assistance to the Community at large, families, the
young and
the Church. Such service can range from providing financial
support for 'good causes' or sponsoring sporting activities for the youth.
Knights give freely of their time and energy to enhance the spiritual
well-being of the local community; distributing posters; erecting
Christmas cribs in prominent places; organising seminars on social teaching;
vocation exhibitions and adopting a moral stance on life
issues.
Donations are made each year to each of the three local upper schools in our area.
Those less fortunate in society, such as the
disabled, those with learning difficulties, special needs and the
homeless, also benefit from KSC action. Many Councils support such groups by providing help with
transport and travel arrangements, accommodation, running 'soup kitchens'
and offering advice to those in need.
Our council, for instance, holds an annual charity concert. The money raised
from this is often rounded up, and donated to a local charity. At the concert in 2011, £1,000 was
given to the
Manorlands Hospice. In previous years, similar sums were given to Prostate Cancer Research,
Bradford Autistic Support, C.H.A.S., The Alzheimers Society, St. Anthony's Project for Homeless Addicts,
The Cenacolo Community and St. Pio Friars.
